October saw the first hybrid enquiry event from the Mindfulness All-Party Parliamentary Group since the pandemic: Mindfulness in the Services: Strengthening Resilience within the Armed Forces. This enquiry event heard from a number of speakers in both the British and US armed forces, including Squadron Leader Kevin Place, Lieutenant General Rob Magowan CB CBE, Dr Sunil Kariyakarawana, Dr Pat Burgess MBE, and Major General Christopher Norrie. The event explored, with powerful testimonials from participants, how grass-roots mindfulness-based initiatives have grown substantially due to the dedication of a core team of volunteers within the forces.

Attendees also heard insights from Dr Amishi Jha, Director of Contemplative Neuroscience and Professor of Psychology at the University of Miami, and Dr Jutta Tobias Morlock, social psychologist at City, University of London around the use of mindfulness within this particular sector.

The enquiry considered next steps for embedding mindfulness within the armed forces in a way that is sustainable in the long-term.
